Update

August 23, 2009

Hey everyone,

First of all, I apologize for the enormous wall of text this is. However, it is an important notice about our releases of One Piece.

I thought it was time to give a small (cough, long) update on how things are going. As you might have noticed, we haven’t updated for almost three weeks now. When I came back from my vacation, I got pretty sick and haven’t been able to work on subbing. Of course, this didn’t take three weeks but I have been lying in bed for quite a lot of days.

After I recovered, it was hard to find a chance to work on One Piece. We were already behind two episodes at that point, so the motivation to sub these episodes kinda disappeared for me. Actually, this has played a role for a long time now. I started subbing One Piece as a hobby, or, actually, I never intented to keep subbing One Piece when I made our first episode. But that’s a story that you can read in the “About us” section. When we released the first episode, I got the hang of subbing again quickly, and for a long time, I really enjoyed subbing.

Regretfully, the reasons for why am I subbing One Piece have disappeared over the time. I didn’t really like ACSF’s releases of One Piece when we started subbing. They were pretty fast, but their quality was lacking in some parts (such as, translation). The only other group releasing was Yibis, and their quality was really good, but they weren’t fast. Sometimes, you could even say they were slow. So I was actually filling a gap back then. We were pretty fast, for the first weeks we were even faster than ACSF, and our translation was better than ACSF, as they took their translation from the manga, as opposed to our translation by ear.

However, ACSF has become a better group now, especially now they’ve renamed themselves “UTSF”. Their translaton has become better, their overall quality has too. Even Yibis has become faster now, and they have even released faster than us sometimes. In other words: KubuSubs had lost its meaning. Every week, the number of downloads of our releases had gotten smaller. We had 20.000 downloads at first. Now, we get 5.000 at best. That’s a huge difference. And although I’m definitely not someone who just wants the most amount of downloads, it is a very demotivating thing for a subber.

Additionally, I have become busier these days than I was before. My summer break has gone by, and tomorrow I will have my first day at work. I was busy with job hunting the past weeks, and it has finally paid off. I got a parttime job now at a gamestore in the middle of Amsterdam, and the time I have for subbing isn’t as much as before. Actually, it isn’t really much now. I only got two days for it, instead of seven as I had before.

When I was talking about subbing with my boyfriend today, I realized that I didn’t even enjoy subbing [One Piece] anymore. While at the beginning, I was really enjoying it and was looking forward to the next episode. Now, it has almost become a chore for me. I’m doing this at my free will, I’m not getting paid for it, so… why the heck am I still doing this?! That’s what I thought to myself. I have been pondering whether I should drop One Piece for a while now.

It just feels so bad. If I drop One Piece now, I’d feel really bad for the people who have been supporting us from the get-go. And especially since we haven’t subbed that much episodes, I would feel like a troll if we’d drop it now. The guilt almost makes me want to go on with subbing One Piece, but that doesn’t work either, of course.

We’ve been updating less frequently for a while now. Instead of catching up to Dragon Ball Kai, the gap has become bigger. I keep promising to release more Chi’s New Address, but everytime something else comes inbetween and I fail to keep my promise. Life’s become more busy for me now, and I feel like the current amount of projects is too much for me to handle right now. I REALLY want to finish Chi though, and I still love subbing that series, so we will definitely not drop Chi. I’m going to sub it till we finish that project, no matter how long it takes.

Dragon Ball Kai is a series that I really want to sub. I’m not pleased with the current subgroup for DBK, and this is a project that’s really close to me. The episode gap has become too much though. So I’ve been thinking about subbing the blu-ray episodes instead of the TV episodes. The blu-rays cost a lot of money though, so I would need some donations or something like that to support that project. I’m still thinking about it, so please tell me if you would be interested in this.

Anyways, for now, One Piece is on hold. I’m not sure if I’m dropping it. The chance is pretty big, though.

Please voice your opinions on this matter, I’m really curious if there would be a lot of people who would miss our releases (of One Piece). Do you archive our episodes? Or do you watch our releases and then archive an other group’s release? Do you wait for our releases instead of grabbing the fastest release? Please tell me, I’m interested.

And please also tell me if you would be interested in seeing subtitled blu-ray Dragon Ball Kai episodes, and if you would be willing to make a small donation to help us make it happen.

I’m very sorry for being away for so long, and thanks for your understanding.

  1. Hey Kubus,

Hope you had a nice vacation and that you’re all better now.
congratulations with your job! I’m jealous, a game store in Amsterdam:O
(I’m gonna study there next year:) )

So the questions asked us to awnser…

Please voice your opinions on this matter, I’m really curious if there would be a lot of people who would miss our releases (of One Piece). Do you archive our episodes?
Or do you watch our releases and then archive an other group’s release?

Yep I archive every single episode of One Piece. And your releases are simply the best and get precedence.

Do you wait for our releases instead of grabbing the fastest release? Please tell me, I’m interested.

Yeah… I have to admit i downloaded 412 from Yibis, but i haven’t watched it yet. Still waiting for the good releases here ;)

*sigh* Wish there was a way i could help :(

    greetz

    • Hi Kubus,

and apologies to Marijin… this is not a reply to yourself.. its a reply to Kubus Post.. since I don’t know how to post.. ^^

anyway.. its unfortunate to hear that you may stop subbing One Piece as I think your subs are one of the best out there..

Personally I would wait for a new episode to come with good subs like yours rather than a rushed subbed version.

however.. I can understand where you are coming from… What ever your decision may be regarding One Piece, I wish you the best of luck.

    • please sub one piece because its so behind i checked and there have been 30 episodes not subbed if anyone can clarify why i’d like to know cause i thought it was on track cause apparently funamation is subbing it there doing a good job but 30 episodes is a lot to be behind

  2. I generally watch the first release that comes by, but yours are the only ones that I consider decent enough to be worth archiving.

  3. Sorry to hear that your desire for subbing has diminished, but I understand your reasons.

Your subs are the best. Far better translations than most. The only other group that is even close to you is Ybis. However, even now they are having staffing issues, at least they were according to a recent post.

I hope you find the spark that keeps you subbing. I always look forward to your subs. Thanks for the quality work.

  4. hey kubu!!

hey my name is Rodrigo lira and i am from chile and live and chile too. and im a big fan of ONE PIECE since it started and i always watch one pice in spanish subs but since i found your subs in english i thougth that they were pretty kool and even its way easier for me to watch them in spanish i have been down loading yours instead becuase yours subs are really kool and quality are always first rate and im always checking your web site every day atleast 5 times because i havent watch the last episodes because i have been waiting yours so feel really sorry that you are going to drop the series but if really to much work for you i will give you my support ok!!!even doe i have to go back watching it in spanish again it was a great time wactching your subs !!! ok and big thank you for you !!!and if start subbing again one piece i will download your instead other ok.

muchisimas gracias kususubs fue super bacan haber estado viendo tus substitulos ok
    desde de CHILE

    RODRIGO LIRA!!!!!!!

  5. I think UTSF’s translation is still pretty abysmal, and Yibis’s translation is nearly on par with yours, but their editing and overall production quality isn’t nearly as good.

As of now, I’m archiving your releases, and only watching Yibis/UTSF if I find time to watch before you release. I understand if you need to move on, but until then I for one will be grabbing every One Piece release you decide to go through with in the future.

  6. It’s been obvious for some time that you have too many projects. For all the reasons you mentioned, but mostly the lack of enjoyment, definitely drop One Piece.

Personally, there are very few anime that I really care about the quality of the video, and Kai isn’t one of them. If I can follow the action and read the subs, I’m good. What’s important is the quality of the translation. You’ve probably lost the chance to be the download volume leader, but if you can continue to sub at least one episode a month I’m sure many of your fans will stick with you. If you you’ve had enough, don’t hesitate to quit: just tell us as soon as possible.

I look forward to at least watching more Chi from you.

  7. Very sad to hear that…
OP is and will be my favorite animie but i disagree with your points.
UTSF sucks! they hardsub the animie and put a water mark on it.(With a few words they destroy OP!)
Yibis is very good but puts karaoke effects on it.
Thats why you are the best group subbing OP!

Subbing DBK blu-rays wont lead to anything because most of us wont see the difference on they PCs.

You asked if i archive your episodes
my answer: I HAVENT MISSED ANY EPISODE OF YOURS (and not only i archive them i have made a back up DVD!)
    About the downloads problem…
Dont care about the real numbers[|R] they dont show the whole truth always… as you know there are also the imagine numbers[|C] (people who watch your releases from another source), this numbers together count! so dont wory be happy…

A good idea is to upload your releases into rapidshare mediafire …
You can also try to recruit some new staff to help you out (moderators SD encoders etc), although kubusubs is a single person group so forget that…

    PLEASE keep subbing One Piece!!!

  8. im very grateful for your one piece releases as they are both fast and high quality work. that said if you dont want to sub it anymore and focus on your other releases you should do so. your subs will be missed but its not fare to force you to continue by playing the guilt card. im sure yibis would like the extra downloads and as you said UTSF has gotten better (they sure sucked as ACSF).

thank you for all your hard work but you should do what you like to do.

  9. Hi Kubus,

First of all I DO archive all of your releases. While I’ve watched other group’s releases I’ve deleted them when when you released your version.

We are all very sorry that you are about to drop One Piece, but we also understand that you did subbing for fun and since you don’t enjoy it anymore you should really stop that.

Furthermore, I also got a job a couple of months ago so I don’t have much free time myself, so I completely understand how you fell.

    Well, that’s all!

    Bye for now,

P.S. Where can I find the episodes of Death Note that you subbed?

  10. I used to watch Kubu subs One Piece releases when they were fast. I’d still wait for Kubus even if ACSF released first because I knew your release would be just around the corner. But then it got slower and I started watching releases by ACSF when they became UTSF. I archive Yibis’ releases. I’d like to show appreciation for you guys though, you started at a time when noone would release reliably and you did/do really well, thank you!

  11. The first box of dbk are around 3000 Yen, lol. I can pay you the whole thing without even starting a donation. And thanks to coalescent europe i can remit the amount to your bank account. Leave a mail with your IBAN if you interested.

I’m sorry to hear that with OP, you were my source of seeing the episodes. Since you leave alternatives i’m not (so) worried about that. Hoping for revitalized Vegapunk, too.
    Still not loving Chi.
I’m seeing DBK from sdproject, pretty good actually, but really would like to have kubusubs for storage purposes.

  12. Well…
1st of all… THANK you for your quality subs!!!
2nd… I ‘m a OP subber for a greek fansub group! I don’t know japanese but, I can understand that your OP subs are relly good! SO… My subs contain 50%-80% of your translations almost every episode. And sometimes 100% !!!! But your not shown at the credits and I ‘m really really sorry about that! It’s not in my hands… That’s why…

-Do you wait for our releases instead of grabbing the fastest release?
Well, I can’t wait for anyone’s realease! I grab everything in the end!

-Do you archive our episodes? Or do you watch our releases and then archive an other group’s release?
Off course I archive your episodes and every OP episode! But yours are among the ones that I don’t delete! Why? Because the quality of HD and subs is great!

Sorry to hear about your decision! AND I really understand you! I ‘ll be around to hear news about KubuSubs!

0_0 … Blu-Ray Dragon Ball Kai episodes I think would be an overkill for your wallet and our Hard Discs! But the quality would be awesome! I like Blu-Ray but I do not recommend it.

    That’s All…

PS: Perastika & Sygxaritiria ( :-) greek words for your health & job )

    • 50%-80% Hmm… If it between 50%-80% then why dont you write “special thanks to kubusubs”..?
Or am i blind and see only the “special thanks to yibis”?

i guess its my imagination and i must go to have my eyes checked…

  13. Hmm… I can understand you not wanting to continue with OP anymore.
If you need to drop it, then you shouldnt let anyone stop you, you did a great job to fill the gap between speed and quality, and have probably indirectly made ACSF/UTSF and Yibis improve themselves to keep up with Kubu.

And yeh, I have also waited since ep411 for your release of the next ep, but i’m not upset about you putting the project “on-hold”, instead, I now get to watch 2-3 eps of OP in one go so no worries.

  14. I’ve enjoyed your releases for the last couple months, and am always sad about having to change which sub-group’s releases I am watching.

But if you don’t enjoy it any more, move on. Doing something you no longer enjoy when somebody offers the same service with a quality level you are willing to accept is unrewarding.

I’ve loved your releases, and glad your going to continue with Chi.

I wish you the Best of luck with your future endeavorers.

  15. Hi there!

Sad to hear, but I guess if you don’t enjoy it anymore, all I can do is thank you a lot!
I’m from Austria and I’ve been following OP all through, but since I started way after the beginning, I had to search for the older episodes.. I never new much about where to look for every single episode, so I DLed them whenever I found one on torrentsearch. Sadly, quite often it just found crappy ones, so I always was happy when it read KUBUSubs in the torrent, since I knew this to be a great one.
I archived most of the episodes and exchanged already seen ones for better quality ones (which usually meant: DLing yours).
So, once again: Thx for everything you did for us OP fans out there, but keep on doing what you like!

    Chris

  16. I’m a OP-Fan from Germany and I watched your releases since episode 396. After that release your subs were the only ones, I downloaded, watched and saved from this series.
I think it is really sad that you are about to drop One Piece… but if you don’t enjoy it any more, then it can’t be helped. In my opinion, people should make their decision in a way they won’t regrett afterwards, which is, in most of the cases, by abandoning things you don’t feel comfortable with.
I hope you will continue the subbing, but I wouldn’t become mad at you if you dropped it because you don’t enjoy it anymore. In my opinion, no one should force himself/herself into doing something!

Last but not least I want to thank you very much for the nice work, you’ve done and, of course, for sharing it with us.

  17. hi kubusubs,
pls pls plssssss , i beg of u dont stop subbing one piece…..i m a great fan of one piece and ur subbing and the quality rocks…its the best there is….i deeply pray tht u get ur interest back in one piece and enjoy subbing OP.arigato for ur all hard work……

  18. Hi there. I’m from Brazil and I am archiving all your releases. I downloaded since your first episode, 396 and was waiting for your release to watch 412 to 414.

As everybody already said, I think too, that your work is the best. And I can understand that you don’t have the same energy to keep subbing.

Take your time and good luck on wherever you choose to do. =)

  19. First off, I’m glad you’re feeling better! That was a long time you were away, I was getting kinda worried .__.

But let’s see. I’m not someone who watches One Piece and I’ve never watched your OP subs, so maybe I’m not entitled to an opinion on this matter… but I’ll pitch one anyway and see if maybe it can help.

If you’ve completely stopped enjoying subbing OP, and would only consider continuing it out of guilt… Then it just isn’t worth it. You said it yourself – subbing is hard work. With your time cut down to just two days a week, I’d imagine you’d wanna make sure what you’re doing is something you want to be doing. With Chi, episodes are short and you know it will end at one point. With OP… who can ever say? If it were me, I’d stop with it completely. I’d feel bad, but I’d rather apologize and feel bad for a while, than continue and feel bad a much longer time for continuing.

As for DB Kai, I’d say not to go for the Blue-ray releases, and instead keep going with the current aired versions. The primary reason for this is that it’s expensive, and donating is not something many will do, even if they do want the clean HQ version of Kai. Also, just how many people watch the HQ version? I know I’d like to, but my computer just can’t handle it (and my comp isn’t even old!) so I’m very happy with the SD releases. I can’t be the only one in that boat, right?

I understand how disheartening it can be to be so far behind on a project… And there’s not much I can say except “you’ll catch up, eventually!” (which doesn’t help much at all, anyway). But I think maybe once you start subbing it and getting into the swing of things again the catching-up will be much less overbearing. I don’t think 10 episodes is all that behind anyway. It’ll be way more if you start from 1 again, wouldn’t it?

Besides, there are those that will wait for your releases! I myself haven’t watched a single episode past 7, just because I like these subs the best. And I’ve been itching to watch more, too, but I’m a quality over quantity person, so I’ve restrained myself.

In the end it’s a pretty tough decision no matter how you look at it, so I wish you the best of luck in getting to a decision you won’t regret.
Just remember, whatever you choose, the fans will adjust. So choose what you think is best for yourself – it’s your project! :)

  20. I think KubuSub is better than others one piece subber, some of the graphic is bad and some is the plain subs

  21. Well I’ll be honest with you. I watch subs by you and yibis. I just recently found out about kubusubs. And honestly I think you do a great job in subbing.

I dont archive One Piece episodes at all, I watch them, probably keep them for a week or 2 and delete them. (Yibis as well) (mostly for space)
I would have save them if I would know how many episodes there are going to be, but since I have no idea, I dont keep them.

Now as for quality, I gotta say that Yibis has a slight better quality in video, but when It comes to subbing, for some reason I like your subs better than Yibis.

So even If I have watch an episode by Yibis, I still wait for your release. Your subs are somewhat better than Yibis. (at least for me)

As for Dragon Ball Kai, In my opinion, I dont think you should keep subbing it, I see other groups doing it too, I think they do a decent job in it. But then again I dont really care much for it, because DBK its the same old for me. (Same as manga, but you still know whats going to happen) Quality in those series its okay, I would have love it if they have made some changes in quality but it looks almost the same. Only the opening and ending are different.

Since you have lost interest in subbing One Piece. I dont think its right for me to beg you too keep subbing, that would be very selfish of me. But If you decide to stop for now, and probably keep going later. I wouldnt mind that at all.
Just do what you think its best for you, after all its not like you are on a contract with us to keep us happy.
Best of luck on your job!

  22. how could you do this to us!?

    =(

    • well…

its not like kubus are doing the subs for us to begin with…

she is doing it with her own free will…

      and as a leisure activity…

      so couldn’t blame her…

  23. Well I am glad you were up front about everything. I hope you are doing much better and good luck with your job by the way.
I don’t actually watch One Piece, so I don’t have an opinion on that, but I am REALLY glad to hear you still enjoy Chi. I love that show and your subs are honestly the best ones out there. Thanks for saying you won’t drop that and it’s okay if you take your time to get everything else in your life in order, we understand.
Dragonball Kai on the other hand, I watch, and I love your subs, but if it becomes too much, it is understandable you want to drop it. I am interested in blu-ray subs of the series. But as always, the idea of money is a bit of a balking point for me. I can’t really say no just yet, so I am interested, but I would like to know how much you would have to raise for each blu-ray, i.e. the cost of each, how many episodes are on each one and about how often you think they would release them. I am interested, and for someone who started out doing this as a hobby, you are really good at subbing. If there is anything we can do to help, even if it is just understanding that you have to drop something, I know that we can do that.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR JOB!! :)

  24. I’ve been watching your subs since the beginning and have enjoyed them a lot. I have only watched one episode with UTSF, and found their translation horribly stilted and unnatural.

Between you and yibis I download and watch from whoever releases faster and don’t normally bother downloading from the other. With Funimation starting their OP subs soon, I’ll probably end up watching them first and then download later from whoever has the highest quality fansubs out first.

    Do what you gotta do.

  25. Hi, I’m translator from a german subbingcrew and like the guy froom Greece before, we were taking your subs for our translation (except the last 3 weeks) because we want to make high quality subs. I especially liked, that you directly provided the scripts and also the way your scripts were written, looking at yibis scripts still gives me a headache^^’
So for me the dropping of one piece is very painful ;)

Nevertheless I can of course understand, that you want to stop, I would too, if I would loose the fun in translating.

So what’s left to say is thank you and good luck for further projects, I think =)

  26. *Hasn’t read any other comments*
    Here’s my opinion.
I think you should keep doing One Piece, I think you’re the best group doing it currently. But if you really don’t want to, I can understand that.

In the case of DBK, I suggest dropping it. Supiido subs are horrible, but SD&Taka are almost perfect and are much faster than you. HOWEVER, I suggest that you DO sub the Blu-Ray rips when they come out. I’m sure the rips will appear on TT anyway, you won’t need to pay for them at all.

I also suggest completely dropping Chi. The fact is, Crunchyroll has perfect Chi subs and are MUCH farther ahead than you. The only downside is that you have to pay if you want to get the episodes the week they air, but being one week late isn’t so bad. I would say I prefer your subs over theirs, but theirs are also very acceptable and they’re current.

You also mentioned subbing Fairy Tail. I HIGHLY suggest you do this, because I can guarantee that there will be 3+ horrible sub groups doing it and MAYBE one good group. I say, sub the first few episodes and if someone else of high quality doesn’t show up in a few weeks, then keep doing it, if another good group works on it, then drop it. I don’t see a lot of the really good groups being into Fairy Tail, except for maybe Frostii or Eclipse, but they’re already busy with multiple long series.

    tl;dr version:
    Sub OP
    Drop DBK, sub blu-ray versions
    Drop Chi
Sub Fairy Tail unless other high quality groups also sub it.

  27. Loved your episodes of One Piece since I stumbled upon your first release on mininova. I was surprised by the quality despite the fast release and kept watching your episodes since then. UTSF was quiet the opposite and I decided to wait for Yibis since you stopped and didn’t give any updates on twitter. Which I always liked most about KubuSubs.

I wouldn’t mind if you stop subbing One Piece. You gave your reasons and everybody should understand your decision. I will keep your episodes in my archive and hope to watch KubuSubs again sometimes, since I don’t watch DB oder Chi. Are you still going to sub Fairy Tail?

  28. I’ll be honest, I never even heard of ACSF/UTSF until I read this post. I took a long break from watching One Piece and when I was catching up I heard Kubu and Yibis were good subs. So I can’t compare you to them, only to Yibis and you are better than them.

I always get excited when Kubu comes out with a release faster than Yibis. It’s like “Sweet. I don’t have to wait for the subs I like.” Sometimes I break and will take Yibis’s if I’m too impatient for better quality, but as far as archiving goes, I always come back for yours.

To me, you are the best OP subbers out there. It would suck if you dropped it, but it most certainly won’t be the end of OP subs ever. (It may however be the end of very good subs for a while). Many sub groups have picked it up and dropped it, and other groups dutifully pick it up for all the fans.

Having a life and being busy in it is a completely valid excuse for dropping a project or two.

  29. *cries*

  30. I really appreciate all the work you have done on one piece. It is probably my favorite weekly fansubbed anime. But obtaining good quality episodes gets difficult sometimes. I currently go to both Yibis and Kubu for my episodes. I consider both about equal in terms of quality, both in translation and video quality. Whomever releases first, is the one I watch.

I can understand getting burned out on it. You wouldn’t be the first fansubber to feel this way. Especially since you are only one person, while most other ‘groups’ have a team working on each episode.

The bottom line is I will keep watching One Piece, where ever I have to get episodes from. All I can say here is thank you for all the quality work you have provided me.

As for Chi and DBK, I personaly have zero interest in either. I am currently (slowly) working my way through all of the actual DB, DBZ and DBGT episodes, so I dont see a reason to watch this new ‘condensed’ version. As for Chi, your screen caps look a little too cute for my liking. My weekly dose of cute is Tony Tony Chopper.

  31. I kept getting ACSF until about hmm the 370, 380s I guess. Then I switched to Yibis for a while. And Yibis were, very very good but yeah they were slow. Then at about 400 I stumbled upon KubuSubs, and I’ve got to say! These were the best. Fast, Accurate, and yeah they were fun.

I don’t watch Kai, as I prefer Z and I don’t watch Chi’s new Address (sorry if i got that wrong) but I kept returning for One Piece so yeah, for me, it would be quite a loss.
Oh and I’m generally patient for Kubusubs. All but 2 episodes have I gone to Yibis for (and that was 412 and one other).

Please don’t feel bad if you dropped One Piece! If it’s too much and stuff people understand. You can’t do it forever! And even if it was short, it was most definitely sweet.

Good luck with whatever your decision may be!

  32. i usually wait for you guys to sub it before i watch it subtitled. i don’t download other fansubs since i consider your subs to be the best. :3

i can’t blame you if you were to stop subbing it though. TT_TT

  33. I know sometime subbing can be really tuff at time I attempted once and realize wow this does take alot of time. I really really like your subbing its better then yibis actually in my point of view I mean there good but your great, I would really like you to keep subbing but don’t feel bad for dropping One Piece if you must I’m sure most of us that support you is most appreciate of what you have done up to so again don’t feel bad. I went through many translation on One Piece and I just came across yours and I was like wow this subber is great simple and easy to read lol but yea its ok. As for Dragon Ball Kai you are indeed the master at subbing it, the other subber are crap and what I like about yours again simple and easy and no timer on the top left corner, it would be nice to watch DBK on blu ray but personally TV is just fine for me since the file would be smaller then blu ray. But overall whatever you decide you have my support and whatever happen to DBK blu ray or TV I’ll just go with majority. d(^_^)d Gambatte!

  34. What?? no more KubuSubs One Piece? Where else am I going to get my weekly dose of mayhem? Your translations is superb & the rest is no where compared to yours. Have kept & will continue archiving yours all the time.

Please dont drop One Piece. We need you KubuSubs.

  35. I will be disappointed to see you go;as it were , but over the last eight years a lot of one piece fansubbers have come and gone , you ,it must be said have been one of the best though and i will be sad to see you go .Your translations have had a fluidity and natural grace to them . What you have said about the other groups is right , they have got both better and faster . It was good to have you whilst you were there ,Good luck with your new job . keep the one piece faith

  36. Even if you go really slow, or at whatever pace you want with DBK, I would definitely still rather have your subs for archive purposes… and im sure others would feel the same way
Personally, I still wait for your releases even though they come out whenever, because I’ve already seen the series, so I’m in no rush. I’ll continue pushing for you to sub DBK at your own pace, but either way, hope all works out with your new job

Your still the best around for DBK

  37. Well, that’s some huge decision you’ll have to make!
Choose what is best for you, I have to say I find your subs better then Yibis’is. And I was Waiting how you would translate the part where SPOILER!: Luffy uses Haki, SPOILER! well Yibis did it good but i’m sure you’d done it better.

    Hope your well, Renevato.

NL: Kubus doe wat je zelf wilt, als het niet lukt dan niet.

  38. To be honest, I expected you to stop at some point. Subbing is a lot of work, and you were relentlessly pushing on single-handedly with multiple projects. I thought you’d burn out sooner.

Your subs were always high quality, and came out reliably every week. Thanks very much for your efforts, and best wishes for the future.

  39. I personally don’t watch One Piece nor Dragon Ball..So I’m only here for Chi
But if you don’t feel comfortable anymore with subbing some series I would stop..

I love your Chi Subs and I don’t mind waiting at all and I’m really glad you keep it up :3 I archive all your Chi Episodes to rewatch them.. I never considered to go looking for those subs somewhere else (crunchy roll is not an option for me and I lack in ‘torrenting’ things)

good luck with your job and best wishes for your health!

  40. *i archive Chi subbed by you i think you do a great job on that
*i only archived the first 5 releases of Dragon Ball from you … the rest is from another group because you were to slow and there were other quality releases
*i often watched your releases of One piece because you were fast and a lot better than ACSF but i must admit i archive yibis release

  41. I support your decision to drop One Piece. As you say, there are other groups out there doing just as good as job as you, and if you don’t even enjoy it any more then don’t do it! I have archived some of your work, but for the last few month my choice of fansub has simply been down to who released quicker out of you and Yibis. While I will be sad to see this end, waiting a day or two extra for Yibis or puting up with the lower quality of UTSF isn’t that great a hardship ; not so large a disadvantage that you should put yourself through subbing a show you do not want to sub.

All I will say is that it was great while it lasted, and if you drop One Piece, posting some links to sites like yibis.com in the news post would probably be a good idea since some people don’t have the sense to look for these things themselves.

You have done a great job these last few months on One Piece releases (I have never watched your releases of Chi or DBK, but I assume they are just as good) and you have made a great contribution to the One Piece community online and its just one of those things that makes life a little better for us. Thank you and good luck with your new job.

  42. I’m sorry to hear that you put one piece on hold. But subbing against your enjoyment isnt the right thing to do , so i agree on your decision. Now to get to bussiness, WHEREZ BE DA SHINY DONATEZ BUTTONZ!?!
And if i donate, what currency should I transfer to? My uncle and aunt have been in the netherlands about 13 years ago and they said the currency was Gulden? Is this correct?

    • that would be Euro (€) now I would say ;) as the netherlands are part of the EU

      • Yes they have Euro… I’m sure of it! I thing its the only kingdom who has Euro…

      • Actually most of the EU-members have €..
only UK, sweden and the new members from the east don’t have it yet

    • Haha, it used to be gulden. Now it’s euro.

  43. For me you are the best One Piece subbing group, by far. You we`re always fast and thorough in translations. I archived all your episodes and I am proud to say they are the best not just in translation, but in quality, you say UTSF is fast, good etc. They are fast, I`ll give you that, but the video quality is awful. They say THAT is HD? Good God, is a shame of all the initial quality. And you have a quality that is unique! You give out the .ass scripts! No one else does that. There is cyb3rfr34k that does it but he just takes the original subs and puts them in a “container”. But you, you are perfect, and my advice is that you drop DBK. Dattebayo is doing it, right? They are quite good. But you can do something else. You just make the script, for OP, DBK and Chi and talk with someone else for the muxing, torrent making, direct download. Or you can just put the scripts. For all the projects. You don`t have to write an article or explain yourself for eventually being late. I support you. And I understand your problem with motivation. I`m a fansubber also. But I don`t have so much downloads because I sub from English to Romanian. If you want I would me more than happy to make the encoding, muxing and assure the direct download, and torrent making. That way you can have more time for yourself, our gratitude and money from your part time job, good luck with it! Please don`t drop OP!!!

  44. LOL, KUBUS IS A GIRL. LOLOLOL.

    • NO WAI SHE’S JUST GAY LOLOLOL

  45. i keep an archive of one piece in my hd… and its mixed subbers.. but i saved all the episodes that kubu made.. a few days of no subs out is fine with me as long as the quality is good. same thing on avi release and mp4.. they just want to watch it fast lol they dont know what they are missing lol…

anyway.. whatever decision kubu makes… its ok… if kubu decide to drop one piece… i will respect that… but know that kubu as one of the subbers of onepiece will always be remembered as one of the best!!

  46. Hi!

I’ve found your releases of OP only recently and I think you’re the best by far. I’ve even decided that I’ll download the previous episodes released by you and archive them instead.
But of course I also understand that 3 projects are too much. I think it was too much without a job, but now that you have one you should drop a project or 2. And if OP is what you enjoy subbing the least than you should drop it. And I’m really a huge fan of OP so it’s difficult for me to say but I’ll admit that it’s the right thing to do. At least we have alternatives (although I really don’t like Yibis’s attack translations – if japanese use mixed language than they could use some foreign words like gomu gomu or a little spanish and french like cien fleur – but it’s probably just me…)
If you ever decide to pick up OP again I’ll download your subs.
Anyway thanks for all your hard work and good luck with your job!

  47. I think you definitely dont drop orlurays of kai.Your kai releases better than other groups.Best so far.Keep going kai this way PLEASE…

  48. I’m very disappointed… very disappointed…

    • then don’t be so…

else you would make her life more miserable…

since she’s doing it out of her own interest…

and decided to share it with all of us…

and now its as if subbing had been like a career…

  49. Hello Kubus,
Thank you for your update. I am a fan of kubus’s One Piece release. I also put your release archive as I considered Kubu’s release is very good.

I hope you will come to a good decision whether you will continue to sub One Piece or drop it and focus on other title you comfortable with.

    All the best.

  50. Sorry to hear you’re thinking about dropping One Piece. I was (and still am) always looking out for your release, because Yibis is not very fast most of the time. And your releases are just as good, if not better, than theirs.

So please don’t quit One Piece!

  51. I already said my thanks in an earlier post, but I just had a thought. If you do still have some interest in helping with One Piece, have you considered maybe forming a partnership with Yibis? Instead of doing all that work yourself, just help those guys where they need it. It’s just a suggestion.

  52. Hey Kubu, thank you for taking the time to update and explain the situation. And as I see it, though I will miss your subs greatly if you don’t enjoy subbing OP anymore then don’t.

Personally I prefer your subs over UTSF & yibis for those exact reasons. yibis take longer, even if they’re releasing faster nowadays I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be as fast as yourself. As for UTSF I will always download them because they’re speed subs, but as for the quality – it’s the worst out of the three, but of course, that’s because they’re speed subs, before when Kubu released their version I would delete them and archive yours only. You are by far my #1 when it comes to quality & translation.

Well, either way, good luck which ever you decide to do.

  53. Thanks for all the work till now and congratulations for your new job!!
Now I guess I’ll go with Yibis :P

  54. First of all, best of luck in your job.

Second of all, I used to archive Kaizoku Fansubs. Then, they started having plenty of delays and that’s when I started archiving Nakama Fansubs & Vegapunk. Then, again they stopped or slowed down heavily, and I started archiving Instantz’. Now, we have Kubusubs, Yibis, and ACSF or UTSF. Quite frankly, your quality is alot better than those 2 and that is why I started archiving your episodes. But then again, your career comes first and I wish nothing but the best.

Thank you for your efforts to help us enjoy and entertain ourselves with One Piece.

  55. I will miss your One Piece releases, but don’t push yourself to do it – if you don’t want to sub it anymore, it’s best if you’ll drop it.
Anyway, good luck and thanks a lot for what you have done already! :)

  56. Good luck with your busy life. Just thought I’d say that.

But anyway, ever since you started doing One Piece, and I heard you were pretty much like the Kaizoku Fansubs of the new episodes, I’ve always waited to download your episodes, whether they were late releases or not, and no other group. You are, imo, the only truly good quality subber working on One Piece. Please don’t drop it, that would mean I would have to switch to one of the poorly done subs.

Same goes for DBK, actually. For this project the scenario is even more serious actually. The other groups working on this are just plain bad. You may be way behind, but that hasn’t stopped me from patiently waiting for your releases and switching to a faster group. If you do blu-rays, that’d be pretty sweet, but I don’t know how many people are really going to be willing to donate.

That’s just my input. Thanks for all the hard work you’ve put into subbing, even if you decide to drop One Piece, your hard work is still greatly appreciated.

  57. juz make it short…

i read almost all of the this comment…

people from many region liked your subs…

    austria(Chris), chile(Rodrigo lira), brazil(Silas), germany(Kisa), greek(K.In.Lo!), malaysia(me) and many more…

so basically your subs are known worldwide…

i known your subs from anidb.net…

comparing yours and yibis…both are okay…(i know nothing of utfs)…but yours had a little bit sharper image than yibis’s…

if there is a thing i would like to complain…is the animator and director of one piece…i would prefer a 1-5 epi fillers then slow animation of one piece (because they want to give way to the manga…so they do it 1 anime epi = 1 manga chapter…)…and it ruins the the agileness of agile character such as zoro, sanji, n luffy…

and i always archive the best there is…currently the best i could say is yours…but i also liked vegapunks…but couldnt compare them cos u guys subs diff arc…

dbk in blu ray…?i dont know about other…but i think i goin to pass…bcause i had limitation wit storage…but if i think it is worthed…i might considered to archive them and donate some…but for the mean time…i’ll stick with pass…

chi…im not sure about other fansubbers (if there are any out ther)…but still get your releases…

nwy…in my oppinion…if you had lost the enjoyness of subbing OP…and wanted to drop or hold OP for a while…i wont stop you…bcoz i know how it felt to be doing something your no longer enjoy while others keep on putting hope on you…

its “do what u like…and like what u do…”…so if u had lost interest in subbing…i would feel very bad if i am to force you to keep on subbing…as if i treated u like a machine…and i dont want to be like that…bcoz u are also the same as me…normal human with normal feeling…

so dont feel bad about it…if you r ready to let it go…just let us know… :)

damn…in the end i just failed to make it short…sory bout that… xp

anyway im always rooting for you…cheer up kubus…and smile always… :D

  58. As long as you keep subbing Chi, I’ll be happy. I don’t watch One Piece (and am unlikely to start, given that it’s gone on for over 400 episodes already) so that doesn’t affect me. I’ve also been downloading DBK from you, although I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, so delays there don’t affect me much either. I guess it would be cool if you could do the Blu-Ray version of DBK, and I certainly wouldn’t mind donating, although I’m just as happy with standard def releases.

Keep your spirits up, Kubus! Hopefully you won’t get too much grief for stopping One Piece…

  59. aaww..I was looking forward to your next release of one piece. I really enjoyed your subs, but at the end of the day it’s still your choice whether to sub anime or not. If you have more important things to do then you should take care of them first.

Thank you for all of your subs.

  60. I watch speed releases of Dragonball Kai and One Piece but I archive your encodes of both. I actally rewatch them as soon as you release them because I enjoy the quality and the accuracy of the subs.

  61. I think most people watch whatever comes out first. Personally, I would always watch Kubu first because it was of a very high quality. I would really hate to see those releases disappear completely, but would understand either way. We’d only have two options at that point (UTSF – fast, but not so good video quality and Yibis – slower, but top quality).

  62. I’ll miss your releases of One Piece.

Thank you for the great work you did !

  63. Noooooooooooooooooo!

I can’t stand it! These were the releases I was so looking forward to. I admit I’m fairly new to the fansub community as I only recently got a new computer I could finally download and play them with. Yours were amongst the first I found, and are to date the clearest I’ve yet watched. I’ve tried a few others and your encodings (esp the SD ones) are by far the best I’ve seen. Absolutely crystal clear stuff, only K-F subs or maybe Nakama-fansubs are even close. As for the others, well, no offense but, YUCK! Bad compression and glitchy audio. But your encodings play clean every time, and look gorgeous. If you don’t have the time to do them anymore, then please show the others how it’s done!

    GC

I am seriously bummed about this. :(

  64. Thank you for all those episode of Chi, One Piece and Dragon Ball Kai.
I think it’s time now for you to stop One Piece if you need to ! You can’t use your limited free time to do a boring think that you are not enjoying anymore.

Thank you for everything and good luck for the following.

  65. Hi! I usually don’t write comments anywhere, but this time I felt like I had to. I must say that out of all the fansubbing groups out there, you are the one I respect the most. And that would be for two reasons. The first one is because you have provided us with one of the best quality releases (both video and subtitles) of One Piece, which is my favorite show at the moment. And the second and most important one, is because you did that on your own, with nobody else to help you. You managed to compete with the speed and quality of many experienced fansubbing teams, which are often composed of at least 3 or 4 people (all shows combined, I’m not talking about OP exclusively), and for the moment I’ve known Kubu, this has never stopped to amaze me. I dare say that you can be really proud of what you have accomplished, this was no small feat.

Now, I must admit that I archive Yibis releases over yours, but that is only because I started archiving Yibis’ since episode 382, and I try to gather the most episodes I can from the same team before switching. But, would I have discovered Kubu before Yibis, I would definitely have chosen you. Anyway, I would always download and watch your releases, because of your superb and very interesting translations.

About DBK, I discovered the show right here, so even though I have gotten all of Taka’s releases, I’m still keeping yours, in hope you eventually go on on subbing this great show.

Although I’m a bit sad with this announcement, I understand your reasons for stopping very clearly, and I respect you once more for sharing those reasons with us. I know of very few groups who are as close to their fans as you are, and this is really great. Now, don’t be depressed over it, as many others have already said, you should really do what you think is the best for yourself. We (the true fans of your work) will never hold a grudge against you for something like this! You don’t have any responsibility towards us, so please do as you wish.

So, this is not the end of everything, this is not even a good by, cause you’re still around here, and your deeds will live on forever in our hearts! Hum, that was perhaps a bit too dramatic… oh well, we French people have always been utterly romantic, you know ;)

All that’s left for me to say is doomo arigatoo gozaimashita, gokurosama deshita, and don’t get yourself lost in Amsterdam’s mystic fog!

  66. Thank you for the subs!
The reason why I’ve booked marked your website was the same reason as everyone else. You were one of the fastest to release high quality One Piece episodes.

Anyway thanks again and I wish you well for your future.

  67. Hey Kubu c:

To be honest, I loved the quality you put into One Piece subs, and the timeliness. Even though I could get subs faster from other groups some the day of, I always waited for the Kubu release; I recommended it to my friends for the combo of speed, agreeable translation, and great image quality.

But I understand things come up. I’m sorry you’ve gotten so busy, and if you’ve fallen out of love with the show, please don’t push yourself to do something you don’t want to do. Myself and others will migrate, but a lot of us will have files labeled “Kubu” on our computers for a long time.

So, give it a good think! <3

  68. first of all, thanks a lot for all the work you have put into subbing One Piece. Your subs are awesome and my favorite by far. since you started subbing, i wait for your releases to get my dose of OP. And your episodes go to my anime archives.
Although i’ll miss your subs, your reasons, if you decide to drop OP, are totally understandable. So, good luck with your future endeavors and projects.

  69. I want to thank you for subbing as much as you have kubus… I am saddened to hear that your drive to sub one piece has deminished, but I understand it… I have all the episodes that you have released archived except for that last two… I will miss your subs and will allways be thankful for the time and effort you put into them… I wish I could sub but dont know how and have just barely started to learn japanese. Ill allways remember that KUBUS is the BEST.

    P.S. Sounds like a cool job…

  70. Hi Kubus,

I would just like to thank you on a great job of subbing one piece over the last few months that I have been downloading your subbed version. The translations and quality are always good, and the episodes are usually released very quickly.

I have downloaded your episodes of one piece in preferance to any other subber for a while now, because they are both quick to release and high in quality.

If you choose to continue to sub one piece, I will continue to download your subs in preferance to others.

Saying that however, I believe it is far more important that you look after your own interests as a priority. You say you now have limited time to sub, and no longer enjoy sub one piece, not to mention you don’t get paid a dime for your fantastic work. I honestly don’t think that I would continue subbing one piece if that was me, but that might just be me.

Please don’t feel guilty about dropping one piece. I’m certain that many such as myself will miss the well timed, well translated, and quick to release episodes, but at the same time, I don’t think many of us would want you to continue to do something you don’t enjoy, without any compensation, taking up much of your time, simply for our 30 minutes a week enjoyment.

Take care, and thankyou for all the great subs so far =)

    Smurphy

  71. hey kubu,
many many infinite thanks for ur hard work on great subs and awesome quality on one piece.no doubt u r the best,i really gonna misss your releases….

about the fact yes i do archive ur releases of one piece (1280*720)thts awesome quality………and i was waiting for ur next release on OP….now tht i know u lost interest.so its kind a shocking…:(..i dont wanna see u doing subs where u lost interest so again thanks a lot for ur subs… i deeply wish there was sth to be done for u return back ur interest in OP……

  72. I think you have already decided what is best for yourself. Maybe it’s become a chore now days, but later on you might miss it. Whatever you decide on doing i wish you the very best for the future. Enjoyed all the subs u have brought to every person who has downloaded them before.

I hope you feel better now than before. And to answer some of your Questions u wanted to know.

Do you watch our releases and then archive an other group’s release? No

Do you wait for our releases instead of grabbing the fastest release? Yes

Simply English Your Subs R the BEST!

  73. Hm… The only ones I’m really archive are K-F and Vegapunk. Howvever, I keep your episodes until Vegapunk has caught up (if they ever will). I don’t know much japaneese and I don’t know how to check who’s video quality is better etc., however… I have all those two’s releases (and yours for that matter) and I can’t really find anything wrong with them. Everyone also says (might be because it’s their forum but whatever) that their releases are really high quality etc… I also like their attack fonts and such.

Point is… I will keep your episodes until Vegapunk has caught up. If you start subbing again I’ll remove Yibis subs for yours.

  74. Ever noticed that you sound really retarded when you are sick?.. I’m not quite satisfied with my last replay and I forgot to tell you some things…

I know your views on kareoke and attack fonts, they are uneccecery. That may be, but I like them… Therefor I will always think of K-F’s and Vegapunk’s subs as superior to yours.

People keep telling me how K-F only use DVDrips and that their translation is as close to perfect it can become (even though I agree with you that nakama can be translated, it should be translated differently on certain occations though) and there are tons of people that have waited for over a year on Vegapunk’s release.

Since everyone I speak to about One Piece with says these are so high qualitiy I will delete yours for them. However, I’d take your subs over Yibis any day, and I’d delete theirs if you ever subbed another episode.

However, I don’t want you to continue subbing if you don’t want to just because we like your releases. If you said “I won’t sub One Piece ever again”, then everyone would just move on to Yibis. It’s that simple… It might sound harsh but no one would really, really miss your releases.

This is a fastsub so if it don’t keep up to date people will move on.

    • You SOB! What do you mean no one is going to really, really miss KubuSubs releases? Aren`t you an idiot, she was telling us how she needed some support, our support, and you, you, that aren`t worth a s**t, come and say this things…and what people will move on? Don`t speak for the community, just do the world a favor and drop dead. Kubus, please, don`t mind him. Every once in a while a frustrated little man says stuff like this, it`s the natural thing. But the important thing is that I and the people who I`m not trying to speak for, but I bet they feel the same way, care about you, and your releases. and if you see fit to continue subbing One Piece we will support you, every single time.

    • Watch this video and tell me then what you thing about K-F…

      • Interesting video, but I mostly disagree. For instance, I find it distracting when a sub gives a name in western order when I can clearly hear the name in Japanese order in the audio track. We who watch fansubs are not the same audience as those who watch dubs on TV, and I think most of us prefer a little more Japanese in our translations.

  75. That was one borring documentary… And I don’t think you guys would go around and think, every time you watched One Piece, “Ohh I miss Kubus, this would be much better if it was Kubus subbing it”… If you do then you’re one sad fuck and should get a life.

When I read trough the update thing the only thing that such to me was how she felt that her subs weren’t needed anymore since Yibis have good subs and now they are often faster then hers. So why the hell should I try to get her to continue doing something she don’t wanna? That’s just selfish. Really everyone here should’ve told her to go to hell so that she wouldn’t feel presured to do this shit anymroe.

Also I don’t mind the notes since they take up like 1/100000 of the screen. I don’t mind when common expressions are left untranslated since I actually understand them. I don’t mind any of that. As long as I understand it I don’t care.

Also, besides… Most of K-F’s notes are on the website, not in the actuall movie. I’m not sure, but I think they have started translating nakama to…

    • Dude, NO ONE is trying to force me to get back to subbing OP. Everyone is understanding and I really appreciate it. I can stop subbing One Piece without any regrets now.

If everyone told me to go to hell, like you say, well, I don’t think I’d ever want to fucking sub again. I already feel guilty about dropping One Piece so soon, so if people only tell me to fuck off, imagine how crappy that would feel as a subber.

That doc is really old, and it does have some valid points. But a lot the stuff he says is bullshit as well. It’s true though that K-F has kept way too much Japanese in their subs, but thankfully they’ve changed this now. Anyway, that stuff is offtopic.

Stop judging about how other people feel, or SHOULD feel, and move on. I know you don’t care about this stuff, so “move on” like you say and go to Yibis’ forum or something.

You got this whole post wrong from the beginning. And what’s with the “retarded” thing?

I can’t believe I’m replying to a horrible troll like you.

      • You wanted to know if people liked your subs right?.. But you don’t feel like subing One Piece, right? Why the hell should I say that you should stay subbing if you don’t want to. I just said how it is.

I think that among the speedsubs (Anime-Crasy, Instantz, Yibis and you) you are way beyond the others. I’d really like you to stay subbing, but if you don’t want to then that’s fine to. It’s not like I don’t enjoy watching your subs, but I don’t think I should pressure you either.

If you read the first two posts, that weren’t a responce to someone elses, then you’ll notice that I just said how I felt about it; I don’t think you should sub if you don’t want to, I won’t miss you that much at all. You have my support, and when you have released an episode I always downloaded it.

Telling me I’m a troll ain’t justified either. I’m not doing this to mess with people, I’m just saying how it is. And besides, I didn’t mean that they should’ve told you to go to hell… Just that they shouldn’t say they’ll miss you subs since that might make you feel guilty for not subbing anymore.

Also, an harmless question… How would you translate “haki”? Yibis translated it as willpower, but I just found that really misplaced and stupid. I geuss it is a good translation but it sounds really wierd.

      • You sir, are a goon sir… good day sir

Ps. Kubus, we will all miss your one piece subs, and we are certainly not trying to make you feel guilty, but I’m sure you already know that, unlike this strange gentleman who thinks we are being rude, when in fact it is he that is being rude.

Its always good to thank someone for doing hard work for no pay, and for the benefit of others… we have a word for that… its called charity.

Thanks for all the hard work Kubus! =)I Will continue to watch your chi releases =)

    • If by boring you mean right and that you just got shown up then yeah, you’re right. :)

Also, nobody cares what you do or don’t care about, we don’t want our subs to be the same way that you do. If you have the right to not care in shove it in other people’s faces then so do we. :)

    • “If you do then you’re one sad fuck and should get a life.”

It was month ago now that Kubus stopped subbing, and I couldn’t help myself from coming back here to check if One Piece was really dropped.
Kubus was the best one out there subbing OP.
I do care, and I do have a life too.

  76. Glad to hear you’re back on your feet again! :D
Too bad you’re not going to sub One Piece anymore, but it’s great you actually realized it yourself and stopped for your own reasons. Congratulations on your job and hope you’ll enjoy it :3

On the DBK blu-ray subs, all the other DBK subbers I’ve been able to find have horrible sub quality so it would be great if you would sub the blu-ray ones so it’ll be possible to actually enjoy watching it instead of getting annoyed at the terrible subs. I’ all in for the donation idea. You are already subbing for free, to start paying to sub for others would just be plain wrong.

Take care, and once again great thanks for all the subs! ^^,

  77. Ohh and btw… I only watched half the documentary, but now I’ve looked trough the entire thing…

I found it funny how he raged on Kaizoku Fansubs and then showed Gerusama’s episodes. Also you don’t use honorifics in the west that much so I think it’s legit to leave “chan”. It just sounds really wierd in english. Either that or take it away completly, but I don’t care either way.

  78. when its come to OP releases .. Kubusubs is the best
    and i REALLY mean it
    please dont stop ><"

  79. ACSF subs are awesome. Much better than Yibis in my oppinion. Translations are much more enjoyable, than the lacky Yibis subs. But when considering quality of video, Yibis was better.
Kubu subs had both of those. Great video quality and awesome translation. I wish for Kubu subs to continue translating One Piece. Not to try and catch up, but simply continue from the latest episode available. Not even from already released 414, but from next week onward, starting 415. Why? There are some groups that are trying to catch up, and never can manage to do it. The group i primarily am thinking on is Vegapunk. They so much went with their story “quality over the speed” that I really wish they drop One Piece already, as it is really sad, seeing an awesome group fading as someone that can’t get it’s ends together.
The only group that I support in such a way is Kaizoku Fansubs. Greatest translation quality ever! And though we’re waiting for them a lot, we don’t care. We just need a fast+quality subbing group, that can translate the latest episodes. And this is what Kubu Subs was, and I hope will remain.
Sorry for the long post, people. But KubuSubs deserve that little spark of enthusiasm that my most sincere opinion can provide.
    Keep on rocking!

  80. Thanks for not dropping Chi. My 7 year old daughter and I LOVE it.

  81. The only thing I can say about the series, Chi yay! The cuteness got you! hahaha
On the other hand… good luck with your job!

  82. I really hope Kubu can continue subbing One Piece. Personally, i really enjoy watching your subs. compared to ACSF or Yibs, i feel the quality is higher. also, i find the size of the HP episode just right for myself.

have been storing your release ever since i discovered Kabu. my previous fansub group was Vegapunk. after they stopped, i’ve been making do with streams for more then a year, until you guys came along. not sure if i’m the minority but regardless of the timing of the release between u and the other two groups, i’ve always waited for your release in preference to the others.

obviously, your life and interest come first. i wish u all the best. really appreciate all the work you have done.

  83. *This is me after reading some comments*
Ok sorry… on the Chi Crunchyroll thing, I live in Mexico and even if I were to pay the amount of crunchyroll it would not ensure me seeing it since they have their restrictions outside USA… so… if u enjoy chi, keep up with chi T^T. Short eps, not a lot of text (since the nya thing is the same in every ep) so… very, very, very interested in your chi subs. (Besides, ur the best at it).

  84. with Instantz subbing one piece again(hopefully they last more then 2 episodes) That makes 3 quality groups other then you subbing one piece so IMO you should only continue subbing if you enjoy doing it or if the other subs bother you that much that effects you enjoyment of one piece.

  85. Hi Kubus!
I’m happy that you are feeling better now! And I hope that you have had a great vacation! And also congratulations for the job at the game store! So awesome!

I just wanted to say that I LOVE your One Piece releases and I always wait for them and save your releases on my external harddrive. I love the way that you work with “no karaokes, and if it can be translated it WILL be translated”. Not many groups thinks like that so I really like it.

But as you are a one person group you shouldn’t feel too bad about dropping some projects if you feel like it will be too much to handle! I still love your work anyway! I may begin to watch Chi instead. I have only watched One Piece, and nothing else subbed by you. I do better grab some Chi’s now :P

I wish you all well and take care!

    //Kamira from Sweden

  86. I go where the 1st upload of one piece is, i dont care for dragon ball kai or chi.

i appreciate the effort but it really doesnt matter to me, once ive seen the episode i dont archive, i delete.

i do prefer you subs though, especially as some subbing groups replace Nakama with comrades Etc. if there are multiple versions out i would chose kubus then yibis then UTSF

  87. Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work to date.

I will miss your subs but I wish you the best!

  88. quit the crap. We want One Piece, We need One Piece, We love One Piece subbed by you. Yes, sometimes is annoying to sub it, but believe me, is worth it. From the scripts to the tl, everything is the best, yibis are just good, and UTSF still suck. I use your scripts for a regional subtitle group, and when i used those from yibis, even the fans noticed they were kinda cold.

So, to sum it up, here is what you need to do:
-take a week or so off One Piece(tl i mean)
-look around old releases and read the comms
-watch the best episodes to find your reason for subbing it
-at the end, see if it was worth the hobby, because the people, myself and even “enemies”( like utsf, which i want to mention one more time, their tl… oh man, is good at sucking), admire your work.
PM me if you want to ask something, or you need a piece of advice:)

    • Honestly, the whole “I use your scripts for a regional subtitle group” ruined the motivational post, as your intentions seem obvious xP.

  89. I love ur dbz releases, but if dont have time i would understand if u stopped releasing anything. Iam not a fan of english dubs, there concept of what good and evil usually comes from the way they look, just look at death note voices, plus they try to make them relevent by editing them with weird changes. I found your subs to be archive quality and have been backing up your dbz release.
hope u keep releasing if not thx for everything.

  90. i found your subs while searching for a way to keep up with the new episodes that were coming out. And compared with every other group out there, i don’t think i have ever had an issue with your subs. Neither in quality nor in translation, which nearly every other group suffers from. Please keep going with the One Piece subs.

  91. Hi Kubus!

One Piece is currently one of my most favorite anime series. I don’t know if you read the manga but the storyline only gets better and better. I religiously wait for the new manga release and any stream site that would be the first to post either a sub or raw anime episode. I then periodically check kubusubs for the official release and watch the episode again with full quality and better subs this time, then I archive your episodes.

For those just starting out with the One Piece series I noticed that it has become harder and harder to download older episodes as the past sub groups closed their sites, therefore I believe archiving is a must. I don’t like mixing sub groups in my archive so I really try to stick to one group for as long as they keep releasing. It would be unfortunate if you cease with One Piece especially since the Impel Down arc is starting soon…and well I would have to find another sub group too.

I understand how busy life can be and that this isn’t the only series you are doing. I don’t expect your subs to be released immediately nor would I want you to feel like you HAVE to do it. I wouldn’t mind it at all if your releases came out a few weeks late or even months. Try not to think that you are X episodes behind, sub at your own pace and enjoy what you are doing. I among many people here will keep supporting you and will await your next release without any expectations of you. :-)

  92. The problem with releaseing a month late is that it piles up. And in the end she’d either have to “hire” people or close the project anyway.

  93. hey.. I’m sad to hear of you dropping one piece. but I fully understand >_<
yes you filled a gap and i've always been so grateful. thank you for that time <3

  94. pleaaaaaaaaaaaaase
don’t drop one piece ever & never
I’m waiting for your new release let’s say starting from episode 416 after you take your time in thinking about dropping One piece….& do you believe people like me in Saudi Arabia waiting for your release????

  95. please start subbing OP again……!

  96. i know that you are doing this for free

so i cant say anything if you want to drop it because you are busy with your real life

but i can say that you are one of the best subbing teams that translated one piece. everything is excellent in your releases, so think about again please.

ooh i forgot to say (( Thank you for everything you did for us until now ))

your fans from United Arab emirates

  97. Realy bad you wont be subbing One Piece anymore :(

  98. Thank your for your efforts and congratulations for your skills. Yor are a very generous person.

Maybe you can watch the subbed episodes and tell us if there is any mistake.

    Alonso
    Lima-Peru

  99. Thanks for all your efforts kubus. I would really love for you to continue subbing One Piece. However if your wish is to drop it then you can also count on my support, since life is made of choices and since you have projects coming for the future you should do what you think it’s fo you… I always supported you and even though this is my first comment i would like to say that I will keep all your releases from the first episode to your last release

    Cheers from Portugal…

  100. Thanks for all your efforts. You are the best. video quality is great. I have all 414 episode in my pc, and of course all of your episode. I would really love for you to continue subbing One Piece. You have my support to do , what you think is the best for One Piece.Good luck to you all.

    Milan-Serbia

  101. Hey Kubus,
THANK YOU !!!!!!!! for all the hardwork for Chi,DB kai and OP

I started d/l chi from you guys cuz i really loved the quality of the vids as well as the translation. Then you guys started with DB kai and one piece and of course you guys kept the quality standards.
I have all your releases of all the three animes and i always look forward to your releases however i would not want to force you to keep subbing OP if your heart is not into that anymore.
I am learning Japanese too so maybe in future i could join you as a translater even though i wont be as good.
Anyways just wanted you to know that there are a lot of ppl who care for you and love you out here and we will always support you.

  102. Hi Kubu!

I realy like your One Piece releases but to be honest i keeped up with the fastest, but preffered allways yours.

I can tell the difference between your release and Un-Tan so i would love to take yours but also i just cajnt wait for the next one piece episode beause i love it so much.

So basicly i can tell i go with the fastest right now and thats not Kubu.

In regards of DBK, i would like to see a Bluray sub but that would be realy slow.

Right now im going with Taka´s Release for DBK and in my Opinion they are doing a great job. even through they are not the fastest.

Suippido has a crap release so Taka is basicly the only choice for DBK.

I would love to see a fast and good DBK release.

I never have watched a chi episode, i dont think i would ike it much.

Even through i dont watch any release from Kubu i allways visit this site because it seems like your a pretty nice person.

If you dont want to do One Piece anymore just drop it i think you should bother with something you dont want. Maybe take a look at other animes, maybe a Completly new one.

Might not get you as much DLs as One piece but does that realy matter as long as at least a few people enjoy your Release?

Ok, what ever i thank you for the few Episodes i watched from here and thanks that i could use your Script for some Experiments!

    greetz from germany
    butthe4d

  103. sad to hear I was already cheking all the time for one piece your version was always HD and best translation imo.

UTSF always wait with HD -.- anyway thats life so its not strange that you dont have the time to do all this It a shame you where good really good.

maybe you can catch on on a later point but who knows I wish you the best.

    -Netherlands

  104. i wont lie on the fact that for One Piece i have always watched Yibis cause i was a patient person but seeing Dragon Ball Kai Blue-Ray or even regular would be great cause that i watched from you guys cause you where the best out there in both video quality and subbing. so feel bad about losing some of the motivation but hope you can manage to keep up the good work ^^

  105. Welcome back! Although being sick sux generally, sometimes it can be nice in that it forces u to slow down your life and take it easy. So anyway, about OP… I just posted a longish thread at Yibis website commenting on why they should consider leaving Nakama, Haki, etc untranslated. (http://www.yibis.com/index.php/topic,89.msg6794.html#msg6794) Its small things like these that make the sub good (besides proper English). Other important points are using Jap + Eng for special attacks.
I do archive my OP and I rename those with poor subs so I can replace them when I find a better version. Currently I would say Yibis is doing a good job, but they translate Nakama & Haki into English which IMO disrupts the OP feeling. So although I’m archiving their work at the moment, I can’t say I’m entirely happy. UTSF sadly has bad english here and there. Kubu does the next best job after Yibis, I’m sorry I can’t recall the exact reason I ranked you 2nd, but I think it has something to do with translation. I only remember it happened in at least 2 or 3 episodes before I decided to keep Yibis instead of Kubu. I recall vividly it wasn’t an easy decision because of what I mentioned abt Yibis.
Its sad you lost the motivation for OP, but my opinion is that there’s no “good” OP sub at the moment, and if you can fulfil it, I’m sure the crowd will come back. Despite K-F’s excrutiating slow releases, I waited and waited until they released the eps I had to replace due to bad subs.
To summarise what I consider important for a sub:
    1) Don’t translate jap words that are part of the anime theme (for OP, its nakama, mugiwara, haki, etc)
    2) Leave special attacks in jap, and add in the english translation also. But of course don’t translate commonly used attacks (e.g. gomu gomu), just leave those in jap.
    3) Add in explanation of Oda’s jokes, (e.g. his frequent play with words) Of course if you’re able to translate the joke into english without explanation, thats really good subbing (but not always possible)
    4) Avoid literal translations. Its better to translate the meaning of the phrase, especially when literal translations make the speech sound weird. This requires some careful judgement and is subjective. But this is very important in a good sub. Because when the speech is phrased in a way that evokes anger (or humour etc), it should be translated such that the english viewer feels the anger when reading/hearing it. When the translation loses that intended impact, its bad.
A good example is the Enes Lobby scene where whatsisname carrying the funkfreed sword yells at Luffy:”Don’t think u can survive if you declare war on the World govt!” The best translated reply from Luffy I found was “YOU WANNA BET??” In CAPS to emphasize. At first I thought it was quite an kiddy reply. But after comparing with many other versions, only this reply brought out Luffy’s anger and defiance to the fansub audience.
    5) Can’t think of a 5 at this moment, thats all!
    Hope it helped! =)

  106. Glad to hear you are doing better Kubus. It’s sad to see you drop OP since your subs are by far the best quality amongst all of the other groups.

I’ve been holding off on OP and awaiting for your releases. The quality and dedication truly shines in your work and i truly respect that.

If you do decide to drop it completely, it’s understandable considering the amount. Perhaps you can hire a few people to lighten the load for you?

Thanks again for the quality subs and i wish you the best of luck with your new job.

I’m going Amsterdam in a few months, maybe i can visit your store and stalk you! Where do you work?! :)

  107. Hi Kubus,

I want to thank you very much for subbing Chi. You are the only one to do it and this anime is very important for me. I have two cats and each morning, I watch three-five episodes of Chi with my boyfriend. We like this moment very much! It is so funny!

I read your message about One Piece. I have a lot of admiration of you. It takes a lot of courage to be honest with yourself and realize that you did not have fun anymore to sub this anime.

So I took the opportunity to write this message to you. Often, we watch anime without saying “Thanks”…

    Regards,

    Myriel

  108. NOOOOOOOOO~~~~!!! +______+

that is soooo not good for us

KUBUS-CHWAAN!! YOUR SUBS ARE THE BEST

I’M AN ARABIAN (ARAB) AND WATCH YOUR SUBS!

HOWEVER!! I MUST SAY IT ;(

*you are the best One Piece subbing group!

    *subbing against your enjoyment isnt
    the right thing to do!

    *SO i understand your decision

*hope you re-think the issue, never give up,
    we will miss ur subs

HONTONI ARIGATUUUUUO~ FOR EVERYTHING! AND I WON’T FORGET YOU I ARCHIVED YOUR SUBS ALREADY!

  109. Yuke yuke! Chopperman!

    • Oh now that you mention it! I finally understand why Kubu lost the motivation for subbing One Piece! Its because the absence of Chopper!
To bad that he was send flying by Kuma… Unfortunately there wont be any Chopper and the rest for a while. But i can tell you that Impel Down arc will be amazing.

Anyhow hope you are having a good time and what ever you decide will come from you only and not from a random teenager like me.

      P.S. waiting patiently for Chi!

  110. Hi an congratulations for your new job!

I’m really glad you will continue to sub Chii
I love that series and your subs are at this moment the best for it

Your One Piece subs have been always really fast and I liked watching them
But usually I watch yibis subs, I think they are better in different points
That’s why I archive yibis instead of yours, sorry :P
In fact I do archive your scripts (I download the RAWs and therefore it’s less traffic to just take your script ^^)

Like you mentioned your subs were filling the gap between yibis quality and fast subs at (now) UTFS
I still don’t like UTFS cause of their miserable quality

About translation I can’t say anything, I’m not able of japanese
But often I watched your version and yibis version of One Piece to see some differences in meaning

I would be glad about new OP subs from you, but I understand your reasons very well

So I hope you catch up on Chii and hopefully Dragon Ball Kai too ;)

So at last let me say this:
Thanks for good and fast OP subs for such a long time!

  111. Sad to hear that kubu is no longer subbing, I have always preferred kubu over yibis. But anyway, thank you for subbing 1piece.

I am also glad that you were once subbing 1piece.

    All the best.

  112. I’ll love to see the blue ray version of DBZ Kai but I am unable to make a donation. *sigh*
I think the TV episode is good enough and thank you for your hardwork

I can’t wait to see the next episode pf DBZ Kai ^_^

  113. please sub one piece because its so behind i checked and there have been 30 episodes not subbed if anyone can clarify why i’d like to know cause i thought it was on track cause apparently funamation is subbing it there doing a good job but 30 episodes is a lot to be behin..

  114. Well, as much as I like your subs of Chi’s new address and am sure you do well on other shows I think it’s best to just take time for yourself and break away from what isn’t pleasing anymore. Maybe in the future you’ll pick it up again, or maybe not. You never know. :)
